This year, we’re turning Black Friday Green. With the items you give back,
we can give back.
Make Friday Green Again
This year we’ve created the Green Friday Fund to raise money for the Brickfields Schools in India. All revenue from our
pre-loved collection and the profits from every sale from the 27th – 30th November will go directly to our Green Friday Fund. Instead of lowering prices, this year we’re shifting the focus to our pre-loved library. Buying second hand, and giving items another chance means appreciating the work of the artisans who made them, supporting people and the planet.
This year our goal was to raise €15K for The Brickfield School Project. Sound familiar? Last year we donated to the same cause. Thanks to your support over the Green Friday Weekend 2020, we surpassed this goal! We are able to provide another 150 children with access to education for the coming year. The additional €4015 will go towards our social projects in 2021.
WHY THE BRICKFIELD SCHOOLS?
As a brand we find it important to give back and support local projects in India focusing on women empowerment or education.
Throughout India there are thousands of brickfields – open air factories where clay bricks are made by hand. Most of the workers are migrants who, with their children, spend up to eight months of the year in these dusty fields. There is no formal education provided for these children due to the migratory nature of these families.
The Brickfield School Project aims to break the cycle of poverty those families are in, and brings education, health and hygiene awareness as well as sensitization for their rights to the brick workers and their children. The opportunities the children have in life are drastically improved by the education provided by the Brickfield Schools.
THE BRICKFIELD SCHOOLS
This cause began in 2008 with 20 schools. There are now 60 Brickfield Schools, which means 3,876 migrant children are reached with education and awareness. These are ‘open air trunk schools’ carrying a trunk full of teaching materials for the children.
With limited resources, these schools provide education for the brickfield children 5 days a week, 3 hours a day and are so important, without them these children would not receive any education at all.
We have created the Green Friday Fund to raise money for the Brickfields
Schools in India.
All revenue from our pre-loved items from 27th – 30th November will go directly to our Green Friday Fund.
In addition, O My Bag will give all profit from each regular sale during this weekend to the Green Friday Fund to make sure we reach this year’s goal of €15.000; providing 150 children with eduction for 2021.
Make Friday Green Again
2020 has been a tough year for our producers. Like many small businesses, the pandemic has proven to be an additional challenge for ethical manufactures.
With this year’s
Black Green Friday Weekend, we’re celebrating beautiful craftsmanship, and in order to support our producers we are encouraging buying second hand. Giving items another chance means appreciating the work of the artisans who made them, supporting people and the planet.
